More “Madman” by Kahil Gibran

Contributed by Bjarne, in honor of a recently departed loved one who died too soon :

Defeat, my Defeat, my solitude and my aloofness;
You are dearer to me than a thousand triumphs,
And sweeter to my heart than all worldglory.

Defeat, my Defeat, my self-knowledge and my defiance,
Through you I know that I am yet young and swift of foot
And not to be trapped by withering laurels.
And in you I have found aloneness
And the joy of being shunned and scorned.

Defeat, my Defeat, my shining sword and shield,
In your eyes I have read
That to be enthroned is to be enslaved,
And to be understood is to be levelled down,
And to be grasped is but to reach one’s fullness
And like a ripe fruit to fall and be consumed.

Defeat, my Defeat, my bold companion,
You shall hear my songs and my cries and my silences,
And none but you shall speak to me of the beating of wings,
And urging of seas,
And of mountains that burn in the night,
And you alone shall climb my steep and rocky soul.

Defeat, my Defeat, my deathless courage,
You and I shall laugh together with the storm,
And together we shall dig graves for all that die in us,
And we shall stand in the sun with a will,
And we shall be dangerous.

Hi Gina, today, 5/18/ 12, I met with a young person, age 28, (who I’ve known since birth), that just just finished grad work, at Dominican Univ, and also lived in Utopia Park, circa 1987. Her mother & I were friends at MIU, 1975-79.

Small world! If she’s still in San Rafael, we could meet. Please tell that young woman that I was on Dominican’s alumni board for a few years. And yes, also lived in Utopia Park. Where else, but in a cult, would “utopia” be a trailer park?

‘Utopia [trailer] Park’, indeed…. with Iowa winters -5 zero F.

Thanks Gina, I will relay your message to my young friend. Please pray for a positive outcome. There is much damage, hurt, pain, confusion, distrust. I will be in touch.

    Hi Gina,

Just read your piece on what I have jokingly referred to as The Pundit Internment Camp and am unable to comment at TM Free, owing to my utter ineptitude at anything technical. Wow, who knew that they were actually being held there against their will. Makes my joke feel VERY inappropriate and I now regret my flippant attitude. On the few occasions that I have been driven past it by a family member it struck me that the poor pundits looked rather bored and disconsolate, peering out from behind the fence at a picture of rural Iowa, and I certainly imagined that the winters must be rough for them. Fairfield has this Alice in Wonderland quality that makes the extremely odd behavior of its denizens seem normal for there, if you get my meaning, and one makes allowances for the oddest situations and circumstances and tends to laugh at things like this when one probably shouldn’t. I have on occasion asked questions about the pundits and their peculiar status of my family members but am always given vague non answers and told how INTERESTING the ceremonies are and how very lucky one is to be among the few chosen to attend them. Don’t know why I am shocked to learn that a place that looks like my idea of Guantanamo of the Midwest actually turns out to be so. Guess this is yet another example of being sucked into TM think without realizing it; that early conditioning is still working! Am very dismayed by this, and even more so by the fact that these poor pundits are being used in this way. Thanks for yet another wake up call!

      Hi Stephanie,
Don’t worry, I cannot work the comments at TMFreeblogspot.com either! I forwarded your message to TMFree’s moderators, asking them to paste your remarks there w/o identifying info.

You instinctively identified that those folks are restrained. Your joke as “Pandit Internment Camp” is not so far off base. Another TM-kid I know says “It’s a concentration camp”, except they have a better diet. It certainly resembles a concentration camp.

Yes, we all normalized a lot because of the social mileu within the TM Movement, especially when raised in that alternative reality we/you knew nothing else, it’s like having been raised on Mars.

      Welcome to Earth!

      g 🙂

Thanks for making me feel like slightly less of a computer dork, and even more for exposing this (call a spade a spade) human rights violation!
